The statistics, covering the year ending March 2026, provide an overview of the work carried out by fire and rescue authorities to prevent fires, improve fire safety and enforce compliance.
Fire and rescue authorities completed 50,195 fire safety audits during the year. Of these, 60% had a satisfactory outcome recorded, broadly in line with the previous year.
Emergency routes and exits remained the most common reason for non-compliance, with breaches increasing by 9.3% compared with the previous year.
The figures also show an increase in formal enforcement activity.
Fire and rescue authorities issued 3,355 formal notifications, an 11% increase on the previous year and a 46% increase compared with 2020.
Article 30 enforcement notices were the most common type, accounting for 1,896 of the notifications issued.
Alongside enforcement, fire and rescue authorities completed 589,278 Home Fire Safety Visits during the year.
The majority, 86%, were targeted at vulnerable households, the highest proportion recorded since targeting data began in 2021.
The latest figures highlight the continued focus on prevention, compliance and enforcement across England's fire safety landscape, while providing an annual snapshot of where fire and rescue authorities are directing their activity.
